Interview with SHS Hockey Junior AJ DeRosa

Image
The Panthers wrapped up the 2020-2021 season on Saturday night with a loss in the state tournament against Bishop Watterson. Boro played tough through the end. The Panthers faced some tough opponents and even tougher obstacles this season, including injuries and COVID scheduling challenges; however, they stuck it out, played a full season despite the pandemic, and gave it their all on the ice. Congratulations to the Panthers on a great season! To finish off the season, I sat down with junior AJ DeRosa to talk about everything hockey. Meet #5 AJ DeRosa… Hockey story: Hockey is a huge part of AJ’s life; he started skating almost as soon as he could walk, and he was playing hockey at the age of four. Hockey runs in the DeRosa family blood — AJ attributes his inspiration to play to his father who has played or coached for his entire life, and both of AJ’s older brothers played hockey. AJ started playing for the Dayton Bombers, which later became part of the Dayton Stealth. He often played

Interview with SHS Hockey Junior Liam Hatton

The Panthers played in the Blue Jackets Cup against Olentangy on Friday night. Goals were scored by Danny Murrow and A.J. DeRosa, but with several skaters injured and the bench running short, the Panthers were defeated. On the bright side, this gave them a little bit of extra rest before the OHSAA District Tournament this weekend. The Panthers will be on the road to the Ice Haus at Nationwide Arena to face off against Bishop Watterson at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. This week, I talked to Junior Liam Hatton to get the inside scoop on playing for the Panthers.  Meet #3 Liam Hatton…  Hockey story: Liam started playing hockey when he was eight years old, and he has been playing ever since. He wanted to give hockey a try because he liked its fast pace and intensity. Liam lived in California, where he played for a team called the Titans. Fun fact about this team: they were funded by the L.A. Kings! Gameday routines: All of the Panthers hold their own unique game day rituals. Some shotgun Red Bull

The Panthers came out even this past weekend with one win and one loss. On Friday, they swept Saint Francis DeSales 9-1. Danny Murrow led the Panthers with five goals, AJ DeRosa scored two goals, and both Chris Scherer and Ryan Pohlkotte pitched in one goal. They closed out the regular season with a loss to Bishop Watterson on Sunday. Looking ahead, the Panthers will compete in the Blue Jackets Cup (the league tournament for Capital Hockey Conference) this weekend and then the OHSAA District Tournament next weekend. This week I talked to both goalies to hear a bout hockey from their end of the ice.  Meet #35 Max Hauboldt and #17 Braden Houser…  Hockey stories: Braden started playing hockey because of his brother Coleman (a Boro Hockey alum!). When Coleman started playing and never turned back, Braden thought he should give it a try too. Max moved to Ohio when he was in third grade. You don’t typically think of Ohio as a hockey hub, but Max started watching the NHL a lot after he moved
